An update is ready. Not a big overhaul, but a lot of small things that together make the difference. Here's what's changed.

Pip greets your child at startup

When you open the app, Read Lab now starts with a short animation in which Pip welcomes your child. It used to jump fairly abruptly from the logo to the home screen; now it flows together more smoothly. If your child comes back later in the day, they'll see a short "welcome back."

Nothing big, but it makes the start feel a bit more personal.

Five new avatars

We've added five avatars. So your child can choose from more characters to put together their reading buddy. Small, but often one of the most fun parts for kids.

Better hints when an answer is wrong

This is the one I'm most happy with myself. When your child gets a question wrong, the app now shows more clearly where in the text the answer is.

The idea is that children learn to search back through the text instead of guessing. That's exactly what reading comprehension is all about, and it works a lot better now.

And more

The child profile looks different

We've redesigned the screen where you first set up a profile (name, level, avatar). It's become clearer, and Pip guides you through it step by step, so you're done more quickly.

Improved texts and questions

We took another good look at dozens of reading texts and questions and adjusted them where needed.

Some sentences read better, some questions were clearer to phrase. Not exciting to read about, but noticeable while practising.

And we fixed these bugs

A few things we sorted out:

  • Your child's progress was double-counted in some cases. That's correct again now.

  • The completion screen after an exercise sometimes showed an empty button. Fixed.

  • The app starts up a bit faster and more reliably.

Just update the app and you'll have everything.

Thanks for using Read Lab, and please let us know if you come across anything we can improve.
